Violin is the love of my life, I started playing violin at age 6, have been playing solidly ever sence! I started playing professionally when I turned 13 in a symphony in Ocala, Florida, where I was known as "smallfry". I am now puting together a baroque/chamber orchestra in Ocala and I play first violin in a local quartet and trio. I recently played concertmaster in a local orchestra and concert chior preformances of Handel's Messiah. As far as teaching goes, I have contacts with a great luthier in Gainesville, Florida, who has violins of all levels, from affordable rentals to fine professional violins. I encourage my students to rent their instrument for the first few years of playing just to make sure they want to stick with it. I'll happily measure the sudent for whichever size violin they'll need and even pick it up for them. I usually teach out of my home but occasionally if the student is young his or her parents cant make it here, I will go to their home to teach. While I prefer to take begening and intermediate students, I will sometimes take advanced transfer students as well. I've always liked and been good with kids. I'm convinced that any child can learn an instrument, even thoes as dificult as the violin. It is a great, beautiful instrument and so much fun as long as he or she can put the effort into it. The main question I always get is "am I too old to learn the violin?" You are never too old to learn any instrument! I've had students as old as 60 before do wonderful. With a little effort and determination, anyone can learn the violin.
